Comme des Garçons
Rei Kawakubo summons the incubus and the succubus for a poetic sabbath. Her FW2019/2020 collection is very powerful and obviously very dark but still full of subtleties and contrasts. The richness of the fabrics comes from the oppositions of mate and shiny effects, lean or fully textured. The female body is often partially visible through fishnet (can we call this almost her most sexy collection to date?) and partially covered with exaggerated curvy forms or couture harnesses. Some more simple garments such as a pencil skirt are paired with an « over breasted » top, making the full look everything but bourgeois. Through the show, we feel also a deep knowledge of history with traces of rinascimento and flemish painter such as Jan van Eyck.
