Paris Fashion Week F/W 19/20:
Courrèges
The Parisian headquarters of the French Communist Party are not only iconic for their modernist architecture by the Brazilian genius Oscar Niemeyer but also because they hosted in the last two decades a couple of major fashion events such as a memorable Prada party in the early 2000s. A very good and logical location for the FW 2019/2020 Courrèges fashion show by Yolanda Zobel, after her good first collection last season. Let’s keep in mind that Courrèges is foremost a design house, rather than a classical company presenting only seasonal collections and products. Like her husband André, Coqueline Courrèges was also a pioneer by creating an electric car in the late 60s, four decades before Tesla. This particular Courrèges collection is a perfect balance between the old and the new. By old, we mean the utopian clean (or clinic) identity of the brand, developed this season again mostly in arctic white. What is new and therefore very seducing is the realness of Zobel’s approach. The vast majority of her designs are wearable and desirable beyond any historical reference or coherence. They are « cool », despite the overrated value of this word. Technically, she has worked this season with fabric paneling and layering for a protective winter.
