« Punk » she said ! Imagine a 2019 version of the opening scene of Ridley Scott’s cult movie « The Hunger » featuring the British rock goth group Bauhaus – Rei Kawakubo’s puts us right into it with her vision for fall winter 2019/2020. In a gloomy sub-basement of central Paris, the very talented band Vowws set the tone for the show with their live performance: loud and dark. The collection was a collage of all what we love at Comme des Garçons. A lot of black, of course, with the usual (but still magnificent) deconstructed/reconstructed tailoring, displayed this season with spiky harnesses. Sparkling like a blitz in the night, the sequined frocks and tapestry style tailcoats were phenomenal. Bela Lugosi might be dead, Rei Kawakubo is well alive and kicking.
